The STAR Award is given monthly to one of more than 300 Chamber-member businesses in the area.
The award is given when a business owner or staff member has shown exemplary achievement in community involvement and/or other outstanding accomplishments.
The Chamber Executive Board members overwhelmingly chose Ark City Walmart as the July recipient for not only its ongoing delivery of excellent services through their retail store, pharmacy, grocery and vision clinic to the community but also for its willingness to collaborate with the city’s businesses, civic groups and Non-Profits and be a positive voice in the Ark City community. They encourage their employees to be involved with various community service opportunities such as helping with Meals on Wheels every Monday. And, and several individual employees volunteer at various community organizations on their own.
Ark City Walmart contributes to the DARE program to help combat drugs in our schools and community. Their Vision Center does free cleanings and repairs at the commodity days at Angels in the Attic. This year the Ark City Walmart helped with the USD 470 Open-enrollment efforts at their store. They have given $8,000 so far this year through The Walmart Foundation to benefit various community organizations and it is planned to give a total of $11,000 by the end of the year. And, they gave generously to the Community Fireworks. They are collaborating with Angels in the Attic to provide school supplies for local schools with the “Stuff the Bus” event. MANNA Ministry, the Ark City local food distribution ministry, has always received foods from Ark City Walmart with last year’s amount totaling $48,000. Ark City Walmart manager, Mark Chickadonz, served with the Police and Firefighters recognition luncheon and is involved with the Workforce and Education Committee.
The Arkansas City Area Chamber of Commerce salutes the Ark City Walmart for their outstanding contributions to our community and are proud to have them as a member of our chamber family.
